What is Ofcom’s view on the use of NTS numbers by public and essential services?

Ofcom believes that public bodies should consider very carefully whether it is appropriate to use 08 numbers in place of Freephone or ordinary geographic numbers.

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) today announced a recall of tubular metal bunk beds imported and distributed by the MPC Trading Company, El Monte, California. The upper bed can fall unexpectedly, causing the bunk bed to collapse. Collapse of the top bunk could result in injury to a person in the bed. MPC Trading Company is currently out of business and the owners of the company are believed to have left the country.
Information obtained by CPSC indicates that MPC customers have returned approximately 300 bunk beds due to weld failures or other defects. In addition, CPSC has received four reports of MPC metal bunk beds collapsing; at least one person was injured.
Approximately 8,600 affected beds were imported from Taiwan and sold to retail stores and distributors in California from December 1991 through February 1993.
The affected beds include the models 3013 twin-size over full-size, and 3012 twin/twin bunk beds. The beds have metal frames made of hollow painted tubes. The glossy painted frames are red, blue, black or white.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bunk beds. To determine if you have an MPC bed, contact the retailer. I've been accused of speaking about things I know nothing about. I'll admit the only thing I know about MLM is the people involved with them are pests.
That's not really a good basis for deciding these things so I asked people who know about network marketing about it.
The first one I called sighed when I asked her if she'd heard about this opportunity. When I explained I didn't want her to join, but rather I wanted help understanding the thing she perked up. Evidently she gets a constant stream of people calling her for advice in the guise of getting her to sign up.Trading company in yiwu
Her explanation wasn't that far off from mine. She knows more about it and can decode the language.
She says the whole deal of telling people to just do $200 a month in sales to meet minimums demonstrates there is no real product. If this was a real eBay deal, you'd want to list everything through the system. The real reason for the management system is to avoid being shut down by the FTC for running a pyramid scam.
For this reason, and others I won't go into here, I stand behind my original comments.
Oddly the promoters are not responding to my comments with rebuttals. Instead they are responding by attacking me for getting the message out and using the message to attract new students into my sphere.
I'm not the one telling people they can start seeing income in 7 to 10 days if they spend $300 for an inferior eBay listing tool, and some training materials that don't exist yet.
I'm the one saying if you want to start selling on eBay gather 15 items from around your house in your laundry basket. Then sit down with your computer and camera and start listing them. Try to list all the items in two hours.
This way you'll convert some unwanted items into cash, find out what questions you should be asking, and identify areas where you need help.

The larger question is just who is legally responsible when a chemical used in antifreeze ends up in a tube of toothpaste. U.S. companies are starting to find out as the lawsuits roll in that the tainted ingredients may come from China, but the liability is here.made in china
U.S. regulators - the FDA, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - generally hold U.S. importers responsible for ensuring that foreign-made products meet American safety standards.
But often the importer doesn't have nearly the wherewithal to do so. Foreign Tire Sales (FTS), a 16- employee, family-owned business that operates from a basement in Union, N.J., is now hurtling toward bankruptcy as it begins a recall of 450,000 Chinese-made tires at a projected cost of $90 million. As things stand, when the money runs out, the recall will end.
In May, FTS was sued in state court in Philadelphia after its tires allegedly caused an accident last year in which two passengers were killed and one severely brain damaged. New regs for US tech export to China now online

Draft texts of the new US rules for export of technology to China are now available online. They will be officially published in the Federal Register this week. China manufacture

The rules are produced by the US Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security. They establish new categories of items which could formerly be exported to the People's Republic, but now require a licence if "the exporter has knowledge...that such items are destined for 'military end-use'...in [China] or is informed that such items are destined for such an end-use".
Particular kinds of high-powered computers, lasers, specialist software* and so on are all on the list, added to more obvious kit such as tanks, missiles, night-vision goggles, etc. An earlier, broader list was cut back in the consultation stage after industry protests.
Some in the USA have argued that the cut-down controls are still overly restrictive, and will hurt American trade as other advanced countries step in to fulfil Chinese demands for advanced tech.
The London Financial Times quotes Donald Weadon and Carol Kalinoski, Washington-based export control consultants, as saying that the rule is "flawed". They also suggested that the rule would "anger the Chinese, our allies, and US industry at one time".
US legislators concerned about advanced technology making its way into threatening military-industrial complexes overseas have more than just their own industry's direct dealings to fret over, as many kinds of kit might be sold or resold by US-allied nations.

Import scandal taints China

In the past few weeks, Bruce Cran's office has been flooded with calls from hundreds of consumers concerned about the safety of Chinese goods.
If it's not about toothpaste filled with the poisonous diethylene glycol chemical, it's about Thomas the Tank Engine toys coated in lead.
Before that, it was thousands calling about potentially fatal pet food.
That is why yesterday Cran, president of Consumers' Association of Canada, called for the federal government to put more safeguards in place.
"At the moment, China is the one we see as being the main culprit for lots of things going on here," he said. "What we are talking about here is the inadequacy of the system here in Canada to protect Canadian consumers from any of this stuff."
Cran's comments came as Chinese inspectors yesterday reported dozens of children's snacks in China – including soft drinks, candied fruits, gelatine desserts and some types of crackers – failed to meet national food standards.
Excessive additives and preservatives were found in nearly 40 per cent of 100 children's snacks tested. In a separate investigation, inspectors also seized hundreds of bottles of fake human blood protein from hospitals.
Whether these cases will serve to undermine China's status as an exporting giant, propelled by low-production costs, remains to be seen.
In recent years, Canada's imports from China have been rapidly increasing.
Imports jumped from $16 billion in 2002 to $34.5 billion in 2006, according to Statistics Canada.
Cran also expressed concern about Chinese tires that were recalled in the United States. The recall covers brand names including Westlake, Telluride, Compass and YKS, some of which may have been imported by a Toronto-area company.
The tires, made by Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co., were recalled in the United States by government order last week. The tires lack a safety feature that helps bind the belts of a tire, raising concern of possible tread separation.
Transport Canada noted yesterday the Canadian system operates differently from the U.S. as the department does not have the power to recall.
The department said it is planning to send the tires to a lab for testing this week.
If the tires are found faulty, the importer will be notified and required to inform owners and the department. If they resist, the Department of Justice can be notified, said Lars Eif, Transport Canada's chief of defect investigations and recalls.
As for safeguards, Eif said the department does sample testing but it does not have the facilities to test every tire.
At the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, officials say products are carefully monitored once they are assessed as being at risk. Samples are taken for chemical residue and micro contamination tests are done on selected samples of vegetables and fruits.

The Statue of Liberty and Sydney Opera House have been sitting in the bottom 10 since the start. Also faring poorly are Cambodia's Angkor Wat temple complex, Russia's Kremlin building and St. Basil's Cathedral, Britain's Stonehenge and the city of Timbuktu in Mali.
The ancient city of Petra in southwestern Jordan — famous for its water tunnels and stone structures carved in the rock — jumped from the middle of the pack to the top seven in January. That was largely thanks to campaigning by the Jordanian royal family and thousands of Jordanians voting by text message over their mobile phones, Viering said.
A surge in voting from the United States, Canada and Europe in recent weeks helped those regions catch up with Latin America and Asia to make the ballot truly global, Viering said.

What followed was one of the most delightful and memorable meals of our lives, as Maria and her two daughters joined us for conversation and we scarfed down two plates of trout fillets with salad. Seeing that we were still hungry, she offered a second course: shrimp cocktail, with fresh avocado, tomato and onion. The buttery taste of the avocado mixed with the crisp fresh shrimp lingers with me still, but not as much as the warmth of these three women. Maria, whose husband was a shrimper, confessed that she was embarrassed to invite us into her whitewashed cinderblock home — " Me da pena," she explained.
